1.0 out of 5 stars This product worked, right up until I noticed MULTIPLE BURN MARKS ON MY DOG'S NECKReviewed in the United States on May 23, 2018I purchased this collar after researching this unit along with a few others. My dog would bark at everything imaginable and needed a bark collar to limit her barking. Once I received the collar, I put it on her (she's a 4yr old sheltie) and used the "progression" setting. I needed to use the longer prongs because of her fur. After she'd bark, the collar would activate and correct the behavior (usually by the second or third progression level). It only took a few behavior corrections and her barking was significantly reduced. I would only leave the collar on her maybe 8hrs a day (mainly after work through the evening hours and then take it off her at night and on walks).
After a few weeks, I noticed she was making a raspy sound. Almost like she was trying to bark but didn't want to bark loud enough to trigger the collar. After taking the collar off her last evening, I noticed that she had MULTIPLE BURN MARKS ON HER NECK FROM THE PRONGS (See Picture). I immediately contacted amazon and they refunded my money without hesitation. I wasn't concerned about the money, I was more concerned that this product BURNED MY DOG AFTER MINIMAL USE. I can only hope that someone reads this review and it helps prevent this from happening to their pet. I'm not one usually to write a product review, but I felt strong enough that this incident needed to be mentioned. I will also be contacting the manufacture to alert this issue to them as well.203 people found this helpfulReport abuseHelpfulReviewed in the United States on April 18, 2019I bought this collar per the recommendation of a trainer. I used it twice (after testing it on myself and trying it supervised). The first time, I noticed there were reddish spots around where the nodes touched his neck and he seemed pretty skittish. I thought, maybe it was just on too tight or for too long. I stopped using it for months. But then I thought I should give it another try for a shorter period that was entirely supervised.
The second time, I was outside with my dog when he tried to bark. I had it on the setting that starts at the lowest and then increases gradually. His bark turned into a scream. A scream that lasted what felt like an eternity, but that my friend said was between 1-2 minutes, as my dog thrashed and panicked in fear. I couldn't get the damn thing off of him because he was fighting to get it off so intensely. Then, after that long scream, I'm guessing his brain shut down, because his body froze - stiff as a board, barely breathing, and with his eyes bugged out of his head.
It's been 6 days since that happened and I am struggling to convince him to leave his crate. He screams out of fear when he sees his leash. He pees when I try to get him to go outside. He clings to me once I get him outside, shaking horribly and trying to get into my arms.
My dog weighs 10.5 pounds. This device is supposed to be okay for dogs over 8 pounds. IT IS NOT.77 people found this helpfulReport abuseHelpfulReviewed in the United States on March 8, 2018This is legitimately the best purchase I've ever made for my dog. I have a 20 lb Shih Tzu who barked incessantly. We hired an expensive trainer and followed his directions and nothing helped. His sister NEVER barks, but my boy is just as stubborn as they come. He's known as the neighborhood loudmouth. I've been eyeing bark collars for FIVE years, but never made a purchase because they all got iffy reviews. This was the first product I've seen that had mostly positive reviews. I pulled the trigger on this one because we've rented a vacation property that does NOT allow dog barking and I don't want to have any issues with our new neighbors this summer. I charged up this collar, put it on my dog, he barked once, and that was the end! He has even stopped (mostly) barking when he's not wearing it! I only put it on him now when he's outside and gets himself worked up and starts getting loud. The minute I put the collar back on him - SILENCE! I say within a month or so he will be 100% trained and we will likely only have to use this as an occasional reminder. This collar cost less than ONE session with the dog trainer and worked a million times better. (And for the record, no, I do not feel one bit bad about giving my baby a little zap to keep him quiet. It's no worse than when you walk on carpet and touch a door handle and get a little static shock. I tried everything else! Some dogs just need a different motivation.)13 people found this helpfulReport abuseHelpfulReviewed in the United States on August 13, 2018I have a 1.5 year old German shepherd that is territorial and an incessant barker both in the yard and on a leash. She stopped barking after the first time I put the collar on her which was set at the lowest default setting. She still runs and jumps along the fence, just no barking. Her leash behavior has changed as well - no more lunging and barking at squirrels or birds or other dogs. She will acknowledge them but is now more responsive to my command to ignore them.
Now when in the yard she really doesn't need the collar. We still use it on walks. I would say her overall temperament has changed thanks to this collar and her obedience has greatly improved.
On a sidenote - I once tried a different remote shock collar (that is triggered by the owner) at the recommendation of a trainer and it went poorly. In fact my dog became even more agitated and aggressive. This was largely due to poor timing on my part and I felt like I was torturing my pet so I returned it. This collar worked much better because it gives immediate feedback that the dog will associate with the behavior. I use it only as a training aid to address specific behavior.10 people found this helpfulReport abuseHelpfulTop reviews from other countries
Tolgay Yilmaz5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bark Collar in the market.Reviewed in Canada on October 10, 2019I am a professional dog trainer who works at a big kennel in Ontario Canada. We've tried every single bark collar in the market. The only one works properly is sportdog brand. The others get triggered by other dogs. Sportdog doesn't.19 people found this helpfulReport abuse
Prairy Earth5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic product that worked for my bloodhoundReviewed in Canada on December 28, 2018After trying every technique to get my blood to stop barking when he heard something in the backyard, I decided to try an e-collar. I looked at the various cheaper options and eventually went with a higher end model. It seemed that all the cheap solutions cut corners to keep the price low.
I can't praise this collar enough. I really like how it adjusts itself to cut the guess work out of selecting the appropriate shock level. It worked right out if the box. My bloodhound starts his bark sequence, and eventually the collar adjusts itself to the point that my dog stops barking as I'm telling him no. It also keeps him from barking the next time out.10 people found this helpfulReport abuse
Milca S.5.0 out of 5 stars Three years of testing!!Reviewed in Canada on August 22, 2020Over the past three years I've tried every single type of bark collar on the market. Every other bark collar has one single flaw....a mic. The mic has to be open to the environment. Water will infiltrate the mic eventually. Even with a drop.of sweat on the mic it won't work. Eventually it will die like all of the others. This collar does not use a external mic and is 100% waterproof. Also all others will go off when another dog barks. I don't care what they say! It will! This one will not
I replaced probably 22 collars and all I needed on hand was five. The other thing is the computer institutions in the circuit board. The others beep and delay to zap. This one is instant during the bark. Exactly what the dog needs to relate bark to a negative outcome. Not that it damages the dog in any way. The dog knows after one day that she or he should not bark when its on. They respect the collar!
Hope this helps.4 people found this helpfulReport abuse
Pia Poblete1.0 out of 5 stars Unsafe. Burned my pup’s skinReviewed in Canada on October 13, 2020Please test on your dogs neck first for any rough and bad reactions. I don’t know if mine was defective, but after seeing numerous reviews with similar results as mine, I’m suspecting that this tool can be very dangerous for some dogs. I’m looking for a bark collar that I can rely on and leave on my dog while I am away. I assumed that purchasing a more expensive collar would be more effective, but little did I know...
This collar was only around my pup’s neck maybe 4 times and after observing her neck, I found a patch of hair loss and an area of raised, burned skin.
I am praying this will not scar as it will be a constant reminder to myself for failing her.
My pup uses an e-collar for training when I am at home for months now and not once has the e-collar given such an awful mark. E-collars are 100% more effective to eliminate unwanted barking, but obviously very limited when you have to literally leave and out of the area. I will try and test other bark collars in the market. Be very cautious with this one.5 people found this helpfulReport abuse
DezTee1.0 out of 5 stars Bought second/third and who knows fourth hand from amazon - save 10$Reviewed in Canada on August 16, 2020Have learned my lesson about buying used or refurbished from amazon - finances were a little low so i decided to buy what i thought would be the best used items from amazon - the first two were fine, but one power cord/recharger did not work. The third collar that was supposed to be the better of the three came without the two extra probes and the power cord totally severed and useless. If these had been the only collars i bough i would have returned but i have nine dogs and 5 other collars and chargers - lesson learned - beware buying second or worse gosh know how many times the time has been returned cause you could get burned - still do not know what life the actual collar has - so far they accept a charge But for how long - how old were they after allOne person found this helpfulReport abuse
